The Descendants of

Henry Tomlinson  &  His Wife Alice

Second Edtion

Henry Tomlinson was a tavern keeper in Milford, Connecticut. He was born in England arrived in Milford around 1652 after a few years in New Haven. In 1654 he was taken to court for setting prices too high and perhaps omitting some taxes. Henry, a man of strong opinions, felt this was unjust and arranged for the arrest of the Governor of Connecticut. The Governor took a dim view of this and arranged for a fine of 100 pounds against Henry. The fine was never collected and by 1657 Henry was living in Stratford, Connecticut. This genealogy tells about this interesting and important early New England family.

This is the first update of the genealogy of the Tomlinson family since the genealogy by the Reverend Samuel Orcutt that was published in 1891. It covers the first four generations of the family plus the names of the members of the fifth generation. Research is underway to extend this genealogy forward to the present.

All of the material from Orcutt’s genealogy on these families is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are numerous photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.

The second edition of this genealogy is now available. It extends the genealogy one more generation. More female lines have been added. The book is 351 pages long and there are now 110 photographs in full color.
