The Descendants of

William Chapel Sr. &  His Wife Christian

William Chapel Sr. was born in England around 1640 and became one of the early settlers of New London, Connecticut. He and his wife, Christian, had six children. At least one died young. The descendants of three are followed for up to ten generations. William was an extensive land owner. The Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London is on land that once belonged to him.  His descendants married into other early New London families, e.g., Avery, Baker, Bishop, Brown, Church, Comstock, Congdon, Dart, Fargo, Huntley, Palmer, Rogers, Strickland, and Wickwire. A number of the descendants settled in the North Parish of New London, which later became Montville. One area became known as Chapel Hill.

The genealogy of this family is complicated by the variations in spelling of the surname. These include Chapel, Chappell, and Chappelle.

This genealogy covers the ten generations of the family. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Research is underway to extend this genealogy forward to the present.

There are more than 3,200 descendants shown. Portraits and color photographs of tombstones are included. The book is indexed by people and places. It is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.
