The Old Burying Ground of Fairfield in one of the older cemeteries in Connecticut. The town of Fairfield was established in 1639. However, the earliest stone known in this cemetery is that of Samuel Morehouse and is dated 1687. Probably others were buried here earlier and their markers disappeared over time.

A book  by Kate E. Perry was published in 1882 which gives the inscriptions of all the tombstones found at that time. Sketches of a few of the stones are also included. In 2009 a new survey was made by the compiler and photographs taken of all of the tombstones still present.  Many of the original stones are still standing. A few are totally undecipherable, some have been replaced by facsimiles, and some have disappeared.

This book contains two pages for every person known to have been buried here. The left hand page gives the vital statistics, biographical information, and the printed epitaph for that person. The facing page contains a color photograph of their tombstone as it appeared in 2009. There are 640 people recorded in this book.

The book is indexed by people and places. Married women are indexed by both their birth and married surnames. It is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper. There  1,280 pages plus index.
