The Descendants of

Nathaniel Foote &  Elizabeth Deming

Nathaniel Foote was born in 1592 in Colchester, County Essex, England, and married Elizabeth Deming. In 1633 they brought their family to New England. They spent a little time in Watertown, Massachusetts, before settling in the area that became Wethersfield, Connecticut.

This book provides the details the first four generations of the family and gives the names of generation five. The Foote family is discussed in The History of Ancient Wethersfield, Connecticut by Henry R. Stiles published in 1904.  An extensive genealogy, The Foote Family, Comprising the Genealogy and History of Nathaniel Foote of Wethersfield, Connecticut, and His Descendants, was published in 1907 by Abram Foote. A second volume by the same author appeared in 1937.

These works contain a wealth of information and were excellent productions for the time. They include males line and some information on the female lines. They are generally accurate but often lacking on the location of events.

The new genealogy adds information on the female lines and corrects some errors for the first five generations found in the cited works. Research is underway to extend this genealogy to the present. Biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.
