The Descendants of

Josiah Root Sr. & His Wife Susanna

Josiah Root Sr. emigrated from England on the Hercules in 1634.  He lived in the Boston area, first in Salem.  His wife Susanna was one of the women of Salem accused of witchcraft. She was more fortunate than many as she was released for lack of evidence.  They soon moved to the new settlement of Beverly where their children were born.

Their son John Root Sr. removed to Connecticut. He lived first in Fairfield but moved to Woodbury in 1681 where many of his descendants resided for generations.

All of the material from the old Root genealogy on these families is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are epitaphs and photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.

This genealogy contains five generations of the Seabrook family and their children in the sixth. Female lines are followed. The book is 256 + xii pages long and there are several portraits and 8 photographs of tombstones in full color.
