The Descendants of

Robert Seabrook & Alice Goodspeed

Robert Seabrook was born around 1575 in England. He and his wife, Alice Goodspeed, raised a family of three daughters. There probably were other children but no information about them has been found. The daughters came to America in the 1630’s. The eldest, Mary,  was already married to William Preston. The other daughters married into other well-known families of early immigrants to America.

When Robert Seabrook arrived in New England around 1635 he was a rather elderly man of sixty. Orcutt lists Robert as one of the first settlers of Stratford, Connecticut.  No mention is made at the time, 1639, of his wife. However, two of his daughters and their husbands did settle in Stratford at the same time.

Robert died in Stratford in 1650. With him ended the Seabrook name in his line in this country. However, many people with the names Fairchild, Preston, or Sherwood their ancestry can trace their roots back to Robert and his wife Alice.

All of the material from Orcutt’s genealogy on these families is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are epitaphs and photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.

This genealogy contains five generations of the Seabrook family and their children in the sixth. Female lines are followed. The book is 130 + xii pages long and there are 14 photographs in full color.
