The Descendants of

Richard Booth  &  Elizabeth Hawley

Richard Booth was born in 1607 in England and married Elizabeth Hawley in Stratford, Connecticut around 1640. They were one of the founding families of Stratford. Six of their eight children reached maturity and raised large families of their own. The Booth family members were influential citizens throughout Connecticut. Their monuments in the Stratford Congregational Church Burying Ground are among the largest. This book details the first four generations of the family and gives the names of generation five.

The Booth family is featured in the Reverend Samuel Orcutt’s History of Stratford and Bridgeport, Connecticut published in 1886. It is also the subject of the Genealogy of the Booth Family by Donald L. Jacobus published in 1952  for one branch of the family. None of the earlier works include the females lines. My new genealogy adds these lines and corrects some minor errors for the first four generations. Research is underway to extend this genealogy to the present.

All of the material from earlier studies on these families is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are numerous photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.
