The Descendants of

Thomas Fairchild  &  His Wives

Second Edition

Thomas Fairchild was born around 1615 in England and had two wives, Emma Seabrook and Katharine Craig. These unions produced a total of eleven children.  Thomas and his first wife were part of the congregation of the Reverend Blackman that founded Stratford, Connecticut. He was a merchant and prominent citizen of the town. At various times he served in the Connecticut Legislature, on a War Committee, and as a Judge. His descendants intermarried with many of the other founding families of Stratford.

The second edition of this book details the first five generations of the family and gives the basic facts of generation six. The Fairchild family is featured in the Reverend Samuel Orcutt’s History of Stratford and Bridgeport, Connecticut published in 1886. It is also the subject of old genealogies and several of the compendiums such as The Families of Old Fairfield by Donald Lines Jacobus contain some information on the family. None of the earlier works include the females lines. The new genealogy adds these lines and corrects some errors for the found in the cited works. Research is underway to extend this genealogy to the present.

All of the material from earlier studies on these families is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are a few portraits and numerous photographs of tombstones which are printed in color. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.
