David Copp and Obedience Topliff had a son Jonathan.  He settled in the North Parish of New London, Connecticut, which later became Montville. His land was located along the Montville boarder with Norwich, Connecticut. Jonathan Copp was active in church and town affairs.

Jonathan Copp and his wife Katherine Lay had ten children. They intermarried with other well-known New London families, including Avery, Baldwin, Denison, Edgecomb, Mason, Stanton, Vibber, and Williams.

This genealogy is an comprehensive revision and extension the scattered information previously available on this family. Corrections based on new research are made. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. This genealogy covers the ten generations of the family. In addition, the female lines are followed and extensive biographical material is added. Research is underway to extend this genealogy forward to the present.
