The Descendants of

Arthur Scholfield Sr.

Arthur Scholfield Sr. immigrated to America and some of his descendants settled in the New London, Connecticut, area. His sons Arthur and John were among the earliest manufacturers of woolen cloth in New England. After growing up in Charleston, Massachusetts, they moved to Montville, on the north edge of New London. John remained there and continued to expand his business. Arthur Jr. removed to Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

John’s descendants intermarried with other well-known New London families. These include Baker, Bolles, Bradford (of the Mayflower), Cheseborough, Comstock, Maples, Rogers, and Vibber.

All of the material from Baker’s History of Montville on this family is included. Corrections based on new research are made. In addition, the female lines are followed and biographical material is added. Detailed source references are given, often to primary records. Along with the text are epitaphs and photographs of tombstones. There are indexes of people and places. The book is bound in soft-cover and is printed on acid-free paper.

This genealogy contains five generations of the Seabrook family and their children in the sixth. Female lines are followed. The book is 130 + xii pages long and there are 2 photographs in full color.
